The Great Commission

Matthew 28:18-20: 18And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19″Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

As CCF celebrates its 26th anniversary, how do we stay faithful and vibrant in our journey with Jesus as individuals and as a group? Most organizations go through stages of start up, growth, plateau, and then decline. According to Bobby Clinton, only 30% of Christian leaders finish well and 70% plateau. What do we need to do to finish well, and not just well, but strong in the Lord? We need to see the BIG PICTURE of the Great Commission.

The Big Picture

The primary verb of the Great Commission is make disciples. Our mission as followers of Jesus is to make Christ-Committed Followers who will make Christ-Committed Followers.

All Authority

The most neglected part of the Great Commission is the phrase, “All Authority”. Jesus said that all authority has been given to Him in heaven and on earth. Fulfilling the Great commission starts with us recognizing who Jesus is and who is giving us the command. It is serious because Jesus made it! The disciples worshipped Jesus because He had authority and power over nature, He stopped the storm; over sickness, He made the blind to see, the lame to walk, the dumb to speak, the leper to get well; over demons; over life and death, He raised Lazarus from the dead and others! Jesus can do what is impossible for men because Jesus has all authority and all power. No need for us to ever fear failure or be embarrassed because Jesus is the King of Kings and we have all the resources in Him!

All Nation

Jesus’ calling is global in scope. He loves you, your family, your race, and all nations. Beware of an inward focus on just yourself or your family. God loves all people. CCF is a global movement to reach all nations. The CCF Worship and Training Center is for training thousands to carry out the Great Commission to go and make disciples. We need to realize that people are lost and headed for hell apart from Christ and that Jesus wants us to reach out to them. The terrible destiny of those without Jesus Christ should motivate us to passionately share the gospel with as many people as we can.

All Obedience

It is not enough that we listen to the word of God, we must obey; obedience is not an option for the disciples of Christ. A disciple must not only believe in Jesus but obey Jesus. Until you fully understand the absolute Lordship of Jesus, the Great Commission will be meaningless to you. Faith involves transformation and obedience, “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” (John 3:36) God’s wants total obedience. That means total involvement, total mobilization. The example in the Bible where all were mobilized was in the building of the Temple, the place of worship. stGod does not want “bench warmers”. Exodus 35:21-22 says, “Everyone whose heart stirred him and everyone whose spirit moved him came and brought the Lord’s contribution for the work of the tent meeting.” It is not whether you are rich or poor. If you don’t have treasures, you have talents. “All the skilled women spun with their hands, and brought what they had spun…all the men and women, whose heart moved them to bring material for all the work… brought a free will offering to
the Lord.” (Exodus 35:23-25,29) In other words, your heart has to stir you. “The people were bringing more than enough…” (Exodus 36:5-7) “Then the people rejoiced because they had offered so willingly, for they made their offering to the Lord with a whole heart. O Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided to build You a house for Your holy name, it is from Your hand, and all is Yours.” (1 Chronicles 29:9,16) Why do you think everybody was eager to take part in this mission? Has God touched your heart to be involved in building of the CCF Worship and Training Center? God will use the CCF Worship and Training Center to train and mobilize others to fulfill the Great Commission. What can you give of your time, talent, and treasures?

All Time

Jesus promises to be with us always. We are called to obey, to make disciples. Success is being faithful to His call and leaving the results to Him. His presence with us assures us of victory! It is not just starting well but finishing well. “I would rather fail in a cause that will ultimately triumph, than succeed in a cause that will ultimately fail.” – President Woodrow T. Wilson The cause of Christ will ultimately triumph because Jesus has all authority.

The Great Commission is great because it impacts the eternal destiny of everyone. And God is asking you, “How will you be a part of this amazing work?”
